Hi, i have the AMD FM2+ socket MSI A88X G43 i bought this for seeing the new world and to escape from the world of AGP 7800 and AMD Athlon 2500+ socket 462 it took me ages to do this, i unfortunately only took1 year to get to use my existing pc.
I have at at least got to play modern games and it is really amazing.
I have the GTX 650 which was given to me for nothing - well i did pay something.
I have the AMD X4 860k CPU which is great also and then i probably got good ram too i got the 1866 frequency DDR3 16 GB Gskill ram.
Agg anyways, i am really sad now that i was to do what i used to do years ago and this is donate cpu power and gfx power to projects like SETI BOINC Cancer ...Space...
The cpu seems so so weak for this stuff i is crazy and yet it is 3.7 ghz i dont get it m its a millions times faster than the old AMD i had but for this bit data stuff like Seti and the other Boinc stuff its so slow. its useless.
I am wondering if i need to change now and r what my options,. I dont see a better CPU than the 860 for my socket i am really sorry about this and sad i just cant believe it.
I originally wanted to get AM3 8350 or 6300 but i didnt want heat and power issues so i went for newer technology at the time which it was.
anyways, any comments or anything?
I am a budget person never liked intel because their stuff is always so costly .
I am sure and i am told u do get budget cpus which do perform well i need to check sites with graphs and including toms hardware.
Not particularly good knowing what key items to check for this type of excersize.
I currently want to change my graphics card and im thinking of being crazy and buying 2 even though i cant afford it really.
I was really considering AMD now and not NVIDIA , so the RX460 ;s were on my list but i scraped them they seem useless after the videos u watched. I am now interested in the RX470 or R480.
I like the RX470 because it save me a bit of money to get the 8pin pci-e molex connector i might need and shipping. the RX480 is so close in price and i belive performance also.
Not sure what to do here..
I am better off with the BOINC SETI projets using 1 GPU or 2? and or well yes i dont know wat the best plan here is.
I am also more confused now with 4GB versus 8GB.
I also reckon for 2 GPUs i will need a better PSU - no money for that ALSO.
Dam this is why i took too long to upgrade from the old Athlon,...

hoping somebody can help inspire me and see beauty in the light

So should i wish to ever change my Motherboard and CPU to an INTEL or alternative AMD solution, what would be the better choice for budget line but u get performance still for mining as such.
Do i just stay where i am because it is acceptable and i just recently bought my AMD stuff OR do i get it sold and buy new sooner?

Main question here is , i would like to buy a graphics card,a new one but not sure which one..
RX470 and R480 are my choices- BUT i dont know do i get the 4GB or 8GB versions and of course the 8GB version for me is very highly priced.
Do i need it for performance or does it not matter and a 4GB will do fine?
I was thinking 470 because it uses less power and i might be lucky running it smoothly with my current PSU.
The 480 is obviously the top one but it uses more power.... maybe 30 Watts average load.
I really wanted to go crazy and buy 2 graphics cards.

lol but what i said in my aforementioned wall of text , makes sense to me.
There are many items open to comment and even valid questions.

:)

Thanks for reading.

If you are talking about Bitcoin mining, virtually all hardware you can get today except specialised ASICs is completely obsolete and not worth it.

If SETI, any Intel starting from i3 + RX470/480 will be much more powerful than your current build.

For gaming, Intel builds would provide a significant boost, but Ryzen is also just around the corner so it might be worth it to wait a little.

Both RX470 and 480 are fine cards, and if you game on 1080p you don't need more than 4GB at this point. However, they are both ALMOST EQUAL in terms of power consumption, approximately 165W on average. If power is your main concern, you migh tas well just buy RX480.

I cannot find any info on your exact PSU model, and it is very important. Which one is it? Or maybe you intend to buy a new one as well?

AOPEN is a pretty popular brand. Anyways i just checked now it says 460 WATT and 500 WATT Peak.
I have used one of those computer build sites where u list the items together so that it can calculate what power u need.
It comes to 435 Watts when i use two RX470's.

I do however plan to get a new PSU... i cant understand why they are so dam expensive also , its like prices for everything are just mental now. Definitely the psu prices are more up than they used to be,

The PSU model i have is AX-500A AOPEN

Could you take a picture of PSU's side label with all electrical specs?

In any case, you certainly cannot use two GPUs with that PSU, you need a quality 750W PSU for that (slightly less than 400W for 2 cards, 100W for the CPU, 50 for other components and the rest should be some free headroom in order not to stress the PSU too much). Even one GPU would be pushing it, depending on the amperage your PSU it provides on +12V rails, it all depends on PSU quality.

Popularity in PSUs doesn't mean anything, quality is all that matters. Seasonic, XFX, EVGA, Antec... look at those brands. Yeah, they can be expensive, but they are expensive for a reason.

Is Raidmax or Corsair good?
I was thinking to buy a decent power supply.
But now tell me, do i get a huge one like a 800 Watt or would a 600 or 650 be a great one?
Like say i plan to maybe pop 3 cards in? like a RX470 x2 and then maybe when i am richer i get another RX460 or RX470.
Im not sure if a R7 or R9 series would work with the RX together....
update i tried my old 9800 GT and 9600 GT in the machine and it works.... BUT i tried the GTX650 and the 9800 GT and no go.
So i am wondering, and this is just in case the RX470 or RX460 or the R7/9 cars gets cheaper so i get a 3rd card...
I imagine i need to get it to plug in the smaller PCIE slot though, not sure how.
need your help to search the sites with me here to see if we can find the adapter... please
