Hey, so I'm building my first rig - I'm going for a red and black /grey theme.
Now I have a dilemma - it's either I go for the Asus Strix 1070 (oc) + msi gaming m5 / Asus sabertooth mark 1.
Or, I go for the MSI 1070 gaming X 8gb + Msi gaming m5 / asus sabertooth mark 1 / Asus Maximus 8 hero.
I have the trident z RGB ram + Asia RGB led strips.
What would you like do recommend and why?
Thanks

Ah you already own 6600K, it'll work on any Z270 mobo, you don't need to upgrade. all mobo you mentioned come with RGB lighting options (sync with music or predefine) How about MSI GTX 1070 Seahawk EK + XSPC Ion (res, pump allinone) + matching fittings and UV reactive tubes + cold cathode UV light (now comes with various color than purple)? on multiple RGB rays the gray background become darker, you should stick monolith theme and let the RGB be the spice, the chance are the colored surface will be dipped by rays, my final opinion is EVGA card with ICX (GTX 1070 FTW2 etc etc), it has grey shroud and sync RGB by software.

Theme opinion

  • ■ MSI card has red accent shroud, on tinted tempered glass case and motherboard's LED it'll look great on monolith TUF mark 1.
    ■ Strix card has RGB lighting that matches motherboard's AURA or Mystic sync, with RGB fans such as AER or Riing it'll be carnival (in a good way), the card's physical layout blend nicely with MSI M5 or Asus Maximus IX (you should go for Z270 for better TridentZ RGB support out of box, some Z170 board such as Maximus VIII may require BIOS update first before using TridentZ RGB RAM).
    ■ Asus offers 3D printing modding, meaning you'll have chance to add covers or shrouds with colors of your choice.
    ■ EKWB has shiny GTX 1080 backplate, I'll go for mirror nickel because it reflect more objects and lights.
    ■ Complete with cablemod colorful 8 pin PEG individually sleeved.
What's your planned CPU and its cooler, TridentZ RGB must be the standout without being blocked by monstrous CPU cooler, to go along with TridentZ RGB.

Air cooler CPU for < 70 watt TDP CPUs

    ■ Thermaltake Engine 27, shiny nickel CPU cooler and might reflects TridentZ lamp on its surface.
    ■ Any low profile CPU cooler with horizontal fan mounting + RGB fans, I'd go for Phanteks PH-TC12LS and replace the white blade fan with Riing or AER fan, good thing is this cooler doesn't use retention clips but screw the fan on. Or you can use red blade fan such as deepcool or gray blade fan such as noctua redux.

AIO cooler for > 70 watt TDP CPUs

    ■ NZXT Kraken X62, the waterblock has RGB lighting.
    ■ EK XLC Predator or Alphacool Eisbaer or Fractal Design Kelvin, you can add clear red or even pastel red dye to the loop.
Tempered Glass Case
Better than acrylic in term of clarity because acrylic gets murky over the time also your finger couldn't leave scratch marks on it.

My chassis is the 750D airflow edition.
CPU is the i5 - 6600k
CPU cooler - Corsair h100i v2,
It has an LED as well as being low profile,
Getting 2 of the corsair SP120 red led fans for the radiator.

Sadly, my motherboard options are rather limited
No Asus Maximus IX for me.
I can go for the MSI gaming m5 (z270) and the Asus strix 1070 for a red / grey/ black mobo with some RGB and leds in the case.
I can also go for the ASUS strix z270H mobo.
Gigabyte z270x ultra gaming is another option for me.
Also the MSI Gaming pro carbon is the last option.
Still haven't decided on the GPU, won't it be too much to have both an RGB Mobo, and an RGB ram AND strips AND an RGB GPU when I'm not going with a color natural build?
Also, this means I need to change my CPU from a skylake to a kaby-lake, what does that mean?

Sorry for my noobish questions
