HI,

i have recently purchased a system with the following config:

i7-7700K (not OverClocked) with intel CPU fan/heatsink (apprx $5 )
16 GB DDR4 RAM
Asus H170 -Pro Mobo
Samsung 500GB SSD + Seagate 3TB HDD
MSI 1060 GeForce GTX - 6 GB
Antec GX1200 Case
Corsair RM650x
7700K batch # L641G639

Whenever i play battlefield1, the temps are hitting 95C+ @ 4.3 GHz ( idle temps around 45C )

I also read somewhere that if delid this CPU i can get 30C lower temps (Which i really dont want to do as i fear i might damage the CPU)

im a total newbie coming to PC hardware. Pls suggest me a fix

Solution
Okay, if you've got the cpu cooler installed nice and tight and still getting temps in the 80's, lets look at your case airflow and fans. Look at your motherboard and count the sys fan headers, there should be 3 or 4. Are all your fans spinning fast when you power on the computer?

Your CPU cooler is not properly placed on the CPU. Essentially you need to make sure the cooler is properly installed on the face of the CPU.

You DO NOT need to remove the cpu, just unplug everything lay it flat, loosen up the CPU cooler clean the old paste off and put new paste on and then tighten it back up. You could also attempt to tighten it up some more, maybe it came lose in shipment?

Look on the back of your motherboard if your case has a cut out. All the push pins should be snapped in. The 7700K does have a higher voltage compared to a locked 7700. What are you temperatures at idle?

There is no need reapply thermal paste, he's probably just missing a push pin.

The reason your CPU is overheating most likely is that you are using the stock Intel CPU fan, with an i7 running at a high clock speed it is always sensible to buy a good aftermarket cpu fan/heatsink. I use the one I have linked below in my home gaming computer and my cpu never goes above 50 degrees and usually stays around 35 degrees and it is overclocked to 4.1ghz. Also if you decided to buy a new cooler please buy thermal paste to apply to it.

Hazzyboy i agree with you, but no way in hell it should be that hot with stock heat sink. It isn't 2006 anymore where the stock heat sinks are complete dog Poop. They're still bad not nearly how they use to be. They should keep temps at a safe operating temp even under full load.

The only other thing I can think off is if the case is restricting airflow and the hot air from other components doesnt have much room to escape therefore making the cpu run hotter.

yeah there is no way a 7700k can handle a stock intel HSF. we're talking about an i7 trying to push over 4.0ghz...possibly to 4.5ghz....there's a reason they don't sell that CPU with a stock cooler...

those temps don't surprise me at all. get a real cooler and then we'll talk.

7700K runs at higher voltage and runs hotter than previous i7s. My 4790K would hit 87C playing battlefield 1 on a slightly better than stock cooler (Arctic Freezer 7 Pro), had to get a CRYORIG H7 to get it down. So it wouldn't surprise me if the 7700K hit max with stock cooler. It doesn't come with that cooler because it's not sufficient for it.

The reason im worried is that i went to more than 3 local PC accessory stores for buying a Professional Air/Liquid Cooler. But all of them told me The basic $5 cooler should do just fine since i was not OverClocking my Processor.

Yes, i will openup my PC tomorrow and check if its properly installed or not

I disagree with this. There's a reason why intel doesn't box stock coolers with unlocked processors anymore. He most likely used an under powered stock cooler that he found lying around somewhere. No stock cooler can tame the 7700k thermals running stock.

well they're just straight wrong. back in 2011 with the i7-2600k and even up til haswell, the box cooler would work just fine. but we're talking lower voltages and almost 500-1000mhz less in clock speed. i'd be surprised if these "computer store people" were even aware that the 7700k could hit 4.5ghz out of the box.

Very true, just cause they work in a PC store doesnt mean they know what they are talking about xD

As others have said, Intel doesn't make stock coolers for the 7700K so whatever you're using wasn't designed for that processor. Get a cryorig H7 (assuming it fits in your case) or other decent air cooler.

Well i didn't know they didn't come with coolers anymore lol, I personally only use Custom liquid cooling loops with my systems. So as far as using stock coolers last time i have was with a pentium 4 cpu over ten years ago

Ok! Definitely will try to get the situation under control by using a cooler first.

The issue with deluxe air coolers is they are heavy and im afraid if my MoBo can support that weight. Other option is to go for liquid cooler (i really like the Kraken 62 ). How much difference will i be able to achieve/expect by using:

1. CM Hyper 212 LED Cooler
2. Liquid Cooler like Kraken 62
