Faster internet with new router

So I previously had a 300Mbs N router with my desktop plugged into it with Ethernet and couldn't get over 2MB/s download. I now have a new 1200Mbs AC router and can get 3MB/s now. I haven't changed my service at all, still paying for just 15Mbs. Why am I now getting faster download through my router? Technically I understand that a faster router shouldn't have gotten me better speeds, but I'm curious if anyone has a technical explanation as to why I am now?

Its not about your new router , its about your previous , your previous router is probably limited to 16Mbps and your new is above that speed (3MB/s =24Mbps). According to that your speed is not 15Mbs but 24 or more . Yeap its quite weird about that 300mbps N router not catching over 2MB/s peak download.
