I'm going to be building a new PC and I want it to have all the fancy xmas lights. I was going to go with an ASUS ROG board, and it's got their new Aura Sync lighting.. So I just wasn't sure, do I need to use components that say they're compatible, or will the Aura software be able to control anything with RGB lighting whether it's branded or not? I guess light strips will be ok but what about other components? I was thinking of getting a NZXT Kraken CPU cooler, and I know they have their own software for lighting, so I wasn't sure if the Kraken would work.

If your mobo supports Asus Aura RGB lighting control, then yes, the link, scroll down to the led lighting, can control deepcool, nanoxia, asaka, Phanteks, cablemod, silverstone etc led lighting without external switches. Things like nzxt hue+ can be controlled via CAM software vrs the native Aura hardware.
