So I had this dream build in mind, linked here. It was going to be a much-needed upgrade for me. If you check out my profile, I'm currently running an FX-6300 build with a 1060. Bleh. But then it occurred to me... why go for the new hardware that intel is offering when the old tick-tock model is out and there really aren't that many performance gains when going with Kaby Lake. So I am scrapping the old CPU and Motherboard for the X99 variety...

But what to choose? I REALLY like Asus and MSI, I'm a big fan of the ROG designs and don't mind shelling out extra money for aesthetics. When it comes to choosing looks over performance, though, I will always go with performance. I want the 6700k, that is known to me...But I need help deciding on a mobo.

Here are my needs:

- SLI capable
- 2 M.2 ports capable of 2280 length
- liquid cooling friendly
- rated well for overclocking

Here are my wants:

- aesthetically pleasing, rgb if possible
- flow and water cooling headers
- high quality "built in" sound card for high fidelity 7.1

Solution

The i7 7700K seam to be a better bin with better overclocking potential so I would get that.
For the board if I was buying right now I would get this. Has the RGB lighting and places on the board to plug in RGB strips for the case.

It's all good and those would be the 58XX 59XX (haswell-e) 68XX 69XX (broadwell-e) and the e5-16XX -v3/v4 I believe

Depends on how many cores you want.

The only reason why I was thinking of going with the X99 architecture is that Kaby Lake is only a few % better than the previous generation. Also i was thinking it was it was more refined, been around.. Better mobos, more features etc...
