It is a tiny bit risky. Some of these newer graphics cards don't play nice with old style BIOS. Just make sure you can return any GPU you happen to buy.

Intel gave up on their motherboard division, so the last BIOS for that board is from 2014, well before the Pascal and Maxwell series were around.

any recommendations on a gpu?

AMD's new cards don't seem to favor any bios over another one. You could go budget, RX 460 2gb. On the plus side it's a huge upgrade over the 210, but then anything is. It does not require much power. The downside is your CPU is capable of keeping up with a faster GPU. So you could with an RX 470 4gb. That's actually what I would do in your position. It does require more power though.

Latest issue I saw was plugging an RX480 into a Dell Inspiron 620 (Sandy Bridge). No signal, solution was a new platform and the card worked fine.

Many people reported issues with 750Ti and 950 in older OEM PCs not working, and BIOS updates are not that forthcoming for some of those.

You can always try it, I would trust an Intel board more than some random Foxconn.
