Dear all,

I am thinking of upgrading my GPU, currently running the below rig.

Intel i7 4771
16GB RAM
2x GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 gaming
27inch 144hz 1440p monitor with Gsync

Now, im thinking of getting a GTX 1080 understand that many people prefer reference cards and I am one of those, hence the G1 Gaming.

But the 1080 is really costly for me, so i'm seriously considering getting a non reference card. Hoping to get some insights from people here.

Which brand and model should I get for the best bang for my buck?

If you have a gigabyte, why not stay gigabyte since it's familiar to you?

609 is a fair price for a brand new one. There's another model that is higher base clocked it looks like for the same price from them.

As long as you stay with the main brands:
ASUS, Palit, EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, and Zotac.
You'll possibly hear other ones, and you'll hear a lot of mixed opinions. I have an ASUS and it's a monster. Just stick with what you've got. A 1080 is a 1080, and no one will perform better than the other except for possibly water cooled, and even then you're gonna have to deal with the silicone lottery.

What PSU do you have? Make sure it's (I'd say) 550w or higher if you're only...

I was under the impression the price difference was drastic like it was when i bought 970 ( i got my 970s from amazon though), thats really the reason why i was going to look at non ref. card hah.

I have a HX850i from Corsair, I bought that before i got my 2nd 970, because i knew i would SLI it someday. I'm guessing i can even handle 2x 1080 with this PSU am i right?

The standard FE reference card is $700. My Strix cost 635. There IS a reference based ASUS Card...sold by walmart of all the stores. It's under 600...but walmart. On Newegg they're about 635, also, much like the strix.

Yeah that should even be able to do SLI, as a 550 is actually slightly more than is required. Most people say you can squeeze out 500, but I still recommend 550 minimum.
