I just put my pc together today and windows is not initializing my HDD.
I have checked all the cables and everything inside the rig and it's all fine.
right now my only form of storage is my 240gb SSD, but I want to made the HDD the primary storage unit (obviously).
Right now i'm in "Computer Management" > "Disk Management" and can see the 2tb HDD on the list as "Disk 1" but it says not initialized, and that the storage is unallocated. I clicked to initialize it, but every time I get an error message "the system can not find the file specified"
I have tried both MBR and GPT partition stlyes and neither work

Thanks in advance

Hi there Khye,

You can attach the drive with both different SATA and power cables to another SATA port. (different controller perhaps) You can even attach the drive to another computer. That way you will be sure if there's something wrong with your system or the drive itself.

It may be a good idea to go to your MOBO's website and update all the drivers available.

Also, see if you will manage to test the drive: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

Let me know how this goes,

I did a bit of cable fiddling and now the HDD is called "disk 2" and is online, but the storage is still unallocated and I don't see it in devices and drives

Well, just swap the cables and ports of your SSD and HDD, so we can make sure all of this is not connection related. You may need to adjust your boot order.
What are the options that you get now, when you right click on the drive when in Disk Management?

I did that and now it shows my hdd as a primary partition, now i just need to know how to make sure everything goes into it, instead of my ssd.
my hdd is currently Q: and ssd is C:
