Right now I have i5-3570K at 4.4 with 1.320 V. I see many people hitting those with 1.2. I can't even hit stable 4.8 GHz without 1.5 V. Should I delid to get better overclocking cappability?

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO/THUNDERBOLT
Cooler: NZXT Kraken x31

I think things sound within the realm of typical or normal also. Delidding is something to consider if temps are high, it doesn't help with voltage. Two things limit overclocking, vcore and temps. All the cooling, delidding, high end coolers etc in the world won't help if vcore is pushed too hard and ends up damaging the cpu.

1.5v vcore is pretty high and not what I would consider safe for typical daily use. Maybe if trying to compete and achieve a particular oc while accepting risk of killing the cpu. 4.8ghz is also pretty high for 3rd gen i5's, it's pretty high for 4th and 6th gen i5's. It's not until 6th/7th gen i5's that 4.8ghz becomes more attainable. Actual oc results aren't bad all things considered, maybe not the greatest but...

Delidding would help the most with temps, is that the wall you are hitting, or voltage?

Most of the stuff I can find on Ivy is several years old when the chips were shiny and new. Has this chip been running since then?

It was Intel's first foray into using TIM instead of solder, so it might be worth cracking it open to see.

Well I am hitting 80°C at 4.4 GHz because of the insane high voltage (1.320 V), I might sell this chip and buy differend one.
I am second owner of this chip.

Yeah I don't think it's worth getting better cooler for this $100 chip, might gonna upgrade to Ryzen if it's gonna be good.

It sounds like you know what you're doing and you manually set the voltage in the bios. The question is, what voltage is your motherboard ACTUALLY running your cpu at via CPU-Z, when under full load?

  • Seems normal to me i know when I had mine most ppl at 4.5 all used those sort of voltages mine use to use 1.25v at 4.5 but anything higher than that really need some hardcore volts I'm talking 1.4v plus @4.8 so I kept it at the 4.5 I think my board held it back also I was using a Asus p8z77-v lk

Expectations may be a tad high for the given cpu.
