Basically I have a gaming server running 24/7 it only has 4 sata ports. I was thinking of getting a pci sata expansion and putting all the drives in there since it's a computer all ready running but would a 5 bay enclosure be a better option and what's the positives and negatives to each setup... plan on port forwarding data have a r7000 router with 3.0 port

To add to above
An enlcosure/nas tasks away the workload from teh server if resources are in any way an issue.
It also will limit read/write access to gigabit ethernet speeds which may or may not be a factor

Now with that said NAS boxes like synology and QNAP are good (even more so the synology) but most multi-drive enclosures do not perform or last that well

The negative of adding so many drives is it will tax your PSU quite a bit on startup I've even seen cases where a PSU that SHOULD run a heavy drive system not start up because of the surge needed just to get things moving. HDDs don't need a lot to run but have a big draw on boot.

As mentioned though how is this configured? RAID, or just a bunch of drives or what?

As of current it's going to be an ssd for the boot drive 5x6tb and a 8tb plus random externalas as a backup for now as jobd. Future I plan on having a 5x6tb raid 6 plus backups may go a different rout unsure tho.

What will be on drives os backups plus normal backups, documents, pictures videos, media storage movies and music, game recordings near 4K compressed to mp4... o and all games plus saves

So you will be running the games off the drives?

If I were you I would break this up. Have the drives you're gonna keep the backups, docs, pics, media, etc in like a NAS, then keep the active games and game saves on one or 2 drives in the system. Then just do game save backups to the NAS.

I was planning on using the integrated graphics and unplugging the monitor... and only multiple game servers depends on what my friends and I are doing. Games off the ssd the HDDs are for storage and such also what should be the price for a nas box and or cheep build

Or 4 bay $269

This will do whatever you want, and better than trying to stuff them all in your PC.
