Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my pc to use 3D editing software smoothly. I will be using Autodesk CAD, Revit, Rhino 3D, Maya etc. I may do a little gaming from time to time. I have done a few research and narrowed it down to either Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or GeForce GTX 1050. My budget for the GPU is under $300 if possible but open to suggestions.

My current setup:
CPU - Intel Core i7 4770 3.4Ghz
GPU - Nvidia Geforce GT 640 (Lags when doing certain renders in Rhino and CAD)
Ram - 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
OS - Windows 10
Storage - 512GB Samsung 850 EVO

All suggestions and advice are greatly appreciated.
Thank You

+Ivan_63 For your budget, I'd definitely go for the GTX 1060 6 GB. With that said, I have practically no hands-on knowledge of Autodesk and Solidwork, as well as the other applications that you named. Most of the professionals that I know who do 3D modeling, texturing and animation have GTX 1080s and Titans X's (Maxwell and Pascal). The majority of them have two or three GTX 1080's in their rigs, and some of them use network rendering pluggin, so that more than one computer on their LAN can combine resources for a single render.

Don't waste the money. For what you want to do you need a Quadro GPU as I suggested. The applications you use are specifically designed to be accelerated by that. It makes a HUGE difference. If you can afford a 1070 you can get an M2000.

Get the right tool for the job.

The card I posted above is what I would purchase for your computer. Also, I strongly recommend that you also post this inquiry direct on the message boards of those applications. For example, I've provided the link to the Autodesk Cad message board below. For these specialized questions, I honestly believe the message boards of these applications, as well as Twitch creative streamers, are the best source of information:
