I overclocked the i5 6402p from 2.80 ghz to 3.4ghz and i only see a minimal difference in games. Is it time to buy a new processor??

Solution

How'd you get 3.4 GHz with a 35x multiplier? Unless you reduced the BCLK for some reason?
The 6402P is a locked CPU, which means the only way you can overclock it is via increasing the BCLK on certain Z170 mobos with specific (older) BIOSs. I'm still a little skeptical that you actually overclocked your CPU.

That being said, with a 960 you're very likely going to...

What graphics card do you have? If overclocking your CPU doesn't improve gaming performance, you're probably GPU-bound rather than CPU-bound.

You can probably overclock a fair bit more as well (4 GHz or higher)

Are you sure you've actually overclocked? Even at stock settings the 6402P will boost up to 3.4 GHz.
