Solution
The normal guest function in even fairly inexpensive routers should prevent any access to the main network. There is also a wireless isolation option in most routers that will prevent wireless to wireless attacks even without the guest but it is possible to attack wired machines from the wireless.
If the other person is wireless only then the guest network will work in most any router. Wired connections are much harder. The biggest issue with using a fancy router is you must learn how to configure all the stuff. There is no magic guest network like a wireless guest network.

You can load third party firmware on many routers if you want. You will have to build vlans and put in firewall rules to prevent traffic from flowing between the vlans just allow traffic to the internet.
