PC won't boot from USB drive

I can choose the Usb drive through pressing the F12 key and picking my usb drive to boot, but then all that happens is that right before the usb boot message appears the boot process halts, and all Im' left with is a blinking line.

Why is this?

Windows is on it, WIndows 7, sometimes WIndows 8.1, it used to work up until a week ago. I just want to install these versions of Widows in order to dual boot as I normally do.
