I have 1TB Seagate Laptop Hard drive. I am trying to recover data from it by using USB to IDE/Sata Cable. I am using TestDisk QRPhotoRecovery software to recover my pictures. The problem I am facing is that it ALWAYS stops after recovering 215 files. After 215 files, my hard drive gets disconnected from everywhere (Disk Management and Device Manager) and then within 1 - 1.5 minutes, it connects again automatically. I then tried again and again to recover my pictures but it always stops at 215 files and disconnects.

Regarding sound, when I connect only power source to the hard drive it spins smoothly without any abnormal sound.

Any thoughts?

The drive is likely failing physically. If you value your data, it is best to seek professional data recovery assistance.

If you want to do it yourself, you should first clone the drive with a program like hddsuperclone or ddrescue. After you get the drive cloned, you can then copy the files from the healthy clone.

Thanks for the response. I had two partitions on this Hard Drive (C: and D: ). Two days ago, I was trying to recover the data from it using EasUS Data Recovery. At that moment, it was showing both of these partitions so, I tried to recover data from 2nd Partition (D: ) and it scanned and showed me the files however I couldn't recover the data because I didn't have License Key for it. Now that I have Paid Software EasUS Data Recovery and I connected this hard drive again yesterday but it didn't show any partition. It's only showing 1 big partition (931.51 GB). Is there any possibility that I could scan space occupied by the 2nd partition (D: ) ONLY? I have a feeling that 1st partition is having some kind of difficulty reading the data.

Also, please let me know if I can make a clone using Ubuntu Live CD? If yes, then how?

Thank you!

This seems like typical symptoms of a impending crash. You should be able to install ddrescue or hddsuperclone within the live Cd Ubuntu, but you will need a separate thumb drive or something to hold the log file.

I tried to detect this Hard Drive using Ubuntu Live CD but Ubuntu is not detecting it. Would ddrescue or hddsuperclone be able to make a clone?

Well, I am in Pakistan and there is not anyone such reliable in this case. So, I would still need some other suggestions!

In Windows, it's actually getting detected and I tried to recover data from EasUS Data Recovery but it just gets disconnected after 1481 files and when I use QRPhotoRecovery, it only recovers 215 pictures.

Thanks!
