New Build Quiet/Silent Power Supply Recommendations

Hi,
I am in the process of speccing up a new build and was wondering if anyone could help me with a quiet/silent power supply for the folllowing:

i7 7700k
MSI Z270 GAMING M5 Intel Z270
Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz - CMK32GX4M2A2400C14
msi gaming x 6gb
Noctua NH-U14S
samsung 960 nvme 512gb
Western Digital 3td blue
fractal design define r5 blackout
LG GH24NSD0 24x DVD Re-Writer SATA (OEM)


I will also have a firewire pcie card running that powers an external soundcard and possibly some other usb devices being powered from the pc.

I specced it up on outervision and if i've done it correctly got a recommended psu wattage of 409w with a load wattage of 359.

BeQuiet let their PSUs be designed by various brands. Their lower end supplies are made by HEC, their top end products were made by Seasonic, nowadays most units by BeQuiet are made by FSP.
FSP makes some quite decent PSUs and a bunch of mediocre ones. The Dark Power is one of the decent units (unlike the pure power for example)
However usually the BeQuiet Dark Power is priced highly and you can get units of the same or better quality for the same price or less

Power draw depends on the efficiency
If you draw 400W you draw 400W no matter if it's a 550W or 750W supply
As to how much your draw from the grid depends on the efficiency
If the 750W PSU has an efficiency of 92% at 50% load but the 550W of 81% at 80% load, the 750W unit will...

The Antec HCG 620 is rated one of the best with a fan averaging 25dBA to 28dBA. At its max 1700 rpm it barely exceed 38dBA for 110% load. There is the seasonic fanless but they are very costly for the power output.

I have the Cooler Master V550 full modular. It's very quite. When i am browsing internet or doing mild tasks, loudest part in my pc is the HDD.

EVGA's P2 series / Corsair AX series would be dead quiet too.
Or you want look into semi passively cooled psu's, like seasonic platinum fanless or snow silent

Corsair AXi series is in my main system. I believe the fan doesn't spin at all unless over 40% load. Also have Seasonic X and Prime Titanium series PSUs. Both have a hybrid mode for similar operation as Corsair. Also hear great things about EVGA's lineup.

I'd certainly go with a semi-passive unit.
when loads are high CPU/GPU will be louder anyway
but with lower loads a PSU can be audible

I suggest a Corsair RMx/RMi (the RMi uses a better fan) or a better Corsair unit as they usually have one of the best semi-passive fan controllers
or the semi-passive or fully passive Seasonics, but they are usually a lot more expensive

I've heard several people complaining about coil whine issues with the Seasonic X unfortunately

Hi,
Thanks for all your help. I'm just looking into all of these now? Is the Corsair RMx/Rmi better than the Ax range?

Just to clarify if i am getting ratings of around 400w-410w in recommended psu wattage on power calculators, do people normally go above this as this seems low? Especially as I've read they degrade over time? Would i be safer going for 500-550w?

it's a good PSU

however it's made by FSP and largely overpriced

generally the AXi is better than the RMx.
above I meant the better Seasonic, had my head somewhere else.
S12/M12/G tend to get a bit loud
the new Prime series doesn't

for a silent build I suggest as stated a semi-passive. a Corsair RMx550 would be my first choice (RMx/RMi 750 if budget is of no concern as it will stay in passive mode the whole time)

So are you saying Be quiet! buy their products off FSP? Is FSP not a good brand?

Say for example my pc needs 400w. Am i correct in understanding that a 750 watt power supply will draw more power from the wall than a 550w even if it is not consumed by the PC?

However if both are gold certified PSUs is doesn't matter as the difference is about 2-10W, even if one is a bronze and the other a platinum certified PSU the difference on the energy bill is basically not noticeable

OK cool thanks. I think i'll stick with 550w. I've narrowed it down to 3 and now just trying to decide between the:

Be quiet Dark Power Pro 11 550w
Corsair RMX 550x
Cooler Master V550
