Hi. I am a complete noob to overclocking so please be patient with me. I have been reading extensive guides for days, and i still cant get anything right when trying to overclock. I am looking for a polite soul to help walk me through the process, since everything I've tried is failing. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Set the XMP first. Then do your overclock tweaking. The xmp alters the core settings, so if you tweak then set it overrides.

On a side note that's a pretty impressive voltage.
What were your temps?

Set option sync all cores
Go to max core multiplier of first core and type 48
Go down and select manual voltage
Type in 1.34
Stress test with prime95 v26.6 (specifically)
See what results and temperature you turn.
Don't exceed 80c. If you do, your cooling Isnt sufficient enough, or you were unfortunate in the silicone lottery.
If it is unstable try 1.35 voltage.
If it is stable try incrementing down by 0.005 voltage. Rinse lather repeat until it does become unstable, then go back up to the last stable voltage.

If it runs cool and or low voltage, you can try multiplier 49 and go up another 0.05 volts from your stable voltage at 48. If it's unstable go up by 0.005 increments.

Do not exceed 80c or 1.4 volts. If you have to get close to 1.4 volts, you're not gonna do so hot on the OC.

Running prime95 at 80 or less is perfectly fine. Exceeding 80c for a longer period of time than "oops" is not good. The oops moment should be ok.

Please come back with results.

If you run 49 at a decent temp (lower than 80, not right at 80, as in ~70 or less) you might be lucky and can try 50 multiplier. If you can't get 50 at 1.375 or close to that I wouldn't run it personally. Mine exceeds 80c when I run that setting.

Hi,

I have just managed to finally get a stable overclock on my i7 7700k @ 4.9GHz with 1.32v with default memory settings. The next step I took was enabling XMP, but this caused my core temps to rise about 5-15c. What could be causing this, and how do i remedy it? Should I manually set my ram or leave XMP on and decrease the VCCIO and System agent voltage? My temps without XMP on are around 75-80 when stress testing and when turned on are around 85-95!!!!
