Ok so i've been on the internet for about three hours now and still can not find a Modem.
Reading review after review, Now I know we don't get the whole story from the reviewer.
I do believe in what Tom's Hardware say's. So I saved your site for the ultimate word, NOPE
although you were honest enough to say speeds drop or may not be as good as Joe's Modem
but all of your reviews after looking at reviews on Amazon. Even Comcast recomends those that have poor reviews Some melted most did run hot. Up load and down load slow. I want my experience to be what my provider say's 200Mbps down and 90 - 100 up. I have a Linksys WRT 1900 AC router works great I need speed not fires or time to play solitaire while a letter downloads . Help me please money is no issue. Oh and why don't they put fans in these things. Thank you

Easy solution rent it from the cable company if you think it is going to constantly fail. Most people know that they do not fail enough for that to be a good deal.

There really is not a lot of options when it comes to cable modems. The chips are all licensed from motorola or where ever company that got sold to. The ARRIS devices which used to be motorola tend to be on every providers network. Many of the other brands of modems are buying the main modem chips from either from arris or whatever company hold the patents.

There are only 3 options really from arris and it depends how many channels you ISP is using. Does not pay to buy a better one unless you suspect your ISP is going to offer the service in your area.

You also have to remember people that have no problems at all tend to not leave reviews. It is those who got a failure that are most likely to complain and this distorts the true number of failures.

When you consider arris has a huge percentage of the market if these modems were acually melting you would see it on the news and they would be forced to recall them as a safety hazard.

But if you are that worried just rent, if it doesn't work you complain and tell comcast to replace it since that is part of their rental agreement.

Your right bill001g. After seeing the photo it is obvious his unt was close to a heat source ie:Browning on the outside in a circular pattern.
I did however leave ways to help improve this which we all know would be a small fan this is all it would take. Comcast offers me Two Modems. Since I use Telephony I can use the Arris 822 or the 822G the market is slim. I already enjoy 171 DS & 35 US.
Thank you for your reply
