Should I upgrade my CPU?

Hi I currently have a fx 6300, and my motherboard just died a few days ago. Should just get same motherboard again, or should I get an intel motherboard, paired with the g4560? The general consensus is that intel is better than amd, but is this a worthy upgrade? How much is the performance difference? What about the fx 8350? These are my only options (Strict budget). I also checked the tier list of cpus here, and it listed the fx 8350 as superior over the g4560 - is this right?

Solution
It shouldn't be much different, the 8350 (especially if OCed) would probably game better (may not be that noticeable) but I would either go with the G4560/B250/DDR4 now or wait for Zen (March).

It's not under warranty; is the performance difference that little?

Do you mean I'll need a LGA 1151 motherboard? I'm thinking of a cheap one, like a b150 since I think the g4560 can't overclock. Does this support it? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014YN64A8/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AHG2MI785YUY7

also, if I get an intel board, I'll have room for upgrade to a more powerful intel cpu, while if I stick with the amd board, the fx 8350 isn't all that different from the fx 6300

Gaming performance the G4560 would be a little bit better (a few FPS) which is pretty much a side-grade however the one good point if you did get the G4560 is getting a newer MB & going with DDR4 RAM which will allow you to upgrade to a i5 or i7 Kabylake if ever needed. IMO I don't think its worth buying another motherboard for your 6300 as its older tech.

You'll want a B250 motherboard as the Z170,H170 or B150 motherboards require a BIOS update to use a Kabylake CPU.

Also the Kabylake Pentium is locked and cannot be overclocked.

What about the g4560 vs the fx 8350? Any performance differences?

I'm thinking of getting a micro-atx b250, since those seem to be cheaper. Are there any disadvantages in this? I have a dual fan gpu and a hyper 212 evo - not sure if it'll fit. My case also needs 3 fan controllers

They're releasing on march? But I'm not sure if the pricing would compare to the g4560 (which is 60 dollars). Also, what are the upgrade paths for b250 or any other 200 series? Can a i5 6500 fit in these boards?

No, kaby lake is compatable with 100 series with a kaby lake bios update but needs a skylake to update, or 200 series out of the box, skylake works in 100 or 200 series. There is a 6 core coming to mainstream 1151, the coffeelake chip. 100 and 200 should work with a bios update.

K chips need a cooler and a Z board to overclock.

I will not speculate on a Zen chip, it may be good or may fail to live up to the hype. I say wait for reviews on retail chips. Since your PC is fried you need something, get https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138372 or matx https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131942 to get up and running again. $55 is not so bad to have a working PC. G4560, B250, 8GB 2400 DDR4 will set you back ~$200 Zen will also require DDR4. You can sell the older parts on either upgrade.

gaming the pentium G4560 2 core 4 thread wins, in rendering/encoding the amd wins

Thanks for the informative post, and holy crap that's cheap. It's too bad I can't pick two solutions.
