Hello,

I have a gtx 970 however it recent just started smoking and it looks like the grill inside have blown however the mother board seems to be burnt. And now I cant get signal to my monitor. What it most likely to be the issue? The card or the board Thank you

Hi Elliot,

If your motherboard is physically burnt, I would assume that is the issue. Don't turn on the computer until you have figured out what the problem is. This is to prevent further damage.

It's very possible that both are burnt then. Ideally the best way to test this would be to put the graphics card into another computer and test it that way. Also, if the motherboard has on-board graphics, try taking out the graphics card and trying the on-board.

The fins bent? A short would not cause heatsink fins to bend. Look at the back of the card. See anything wrong with the PCB? Nope. Not Crunchy Peanut Butter Time. Printed Circuit Board.

What precipitated this failure? What were you doing at the time of the failure? Which PSU are you using? Complete make and model number is needed. Who makes the card? EVGA? Gigabyte? Asus? MSI? Complete system specs? Age of the system? Plugged into a grounded surge protector?
