Unable to detect 960 Evo as bootable option after hard shutdown

I installed my 960 evo SSD on my Z270E STRIX motherboard. I installed windows 10 on that SSD and have been using the pc all week with no issues. Today I slept my computer and accidentally pressed the power button when I went to wake it up. All I saw was a black screen so I pressed the power button again and did a hard shutdown.

Upon restarting the computer, it booted to the bios menu instead of Win10 and I know longer see the SSD in the boot options list.

Any ideas what happened to my SSD and how I might detect it and boot from it again? Thank you very much for your time. Please let me know if you need anything from me.

BIOS version 0222 x64
Running Intel i7-7700K

(I'm assuming you're communicating with this "forum" via another PC you have available?)

1. With the PC shutdown, assuming your PSU is equipped with a power switch, turn it to the OFF position and after a few moments turn it back to ON.

2. Power-up the PC and see if you can access the boot menu during bootup. Keep tapping the F8 key during the bootup (I believe the F8 key is the appropriate key for ASUS motherboards to access the boot menu but check your user manual to verify).

3. I'm hoping the boot menu will display and the 960 EVO will be listed as a boot device which you can select.

4. Should that not be the case do you have another HDD or SSD that's available and on which you can install the Win 10 OS and determine whether the 960 EVO is detected as a secondary drive? And if so, whether you could test its health with the Samsung Magician program? Perhaps you're dealing with a defective drive.

Thank you so much for responding. I am unable to see the drive in the BIOS, windows disk manager, or samsung magician. However, I did receive this message when booting that starts with "An M2 PCIE has been detected in the M.2_2 socket" so that suggets to me that it knows something is there.

Do you think the drive is defective?

So did you follow the advice provided in that message? But to no avail?
There's always a possibility you're dealing with a defective M.2 SSD but usually it's some kind of a configuration problem.
The fact that the drive is not detected by the Samsung Magician program is ominous, but not an absolute indication of a defective device.
It might be a good idea to get in touch with ASUS support re this issue.
Ensure you're working with the latest BIOS update. These Z270 BIOS updates are coming fast & furious because of the newness of the boards.

Correct I followed the advice but to no avail. And this may be a silly question but how do I ensure I'm working with the latest BIOS update? Do I need to install that to the problematic ssd or does that somehow get applied directly to the motherboard? Thank you for the help.

I just downloaded a .cap file from here but I'm not sure what to do with it.

I believe ASUS has this EZ-Flash utility process which allows the user to download the BIOS Update on a USB flash drive and install the update from the BIOS screen using the USB device. BUT PLEASE CHECK YOUR USER MANUAL FOR DETAILS ON THIS PROCESS.
And I would still recommend contacting ASUS re this issue.

Thanks again for the help. I have successfully update the BIOS but still do not detect the drive. I will try all the previous steps with the updated BIOS and reach out to ASUS. I am super demoralized by this but thank you for helping me try to find an answer.

I can only imagine how frustrating all this is. In general, there seems to be more PC user complaints than one would normally expect re non-detection of M.2 SSDs and associated problems involving installing an OS on these devices. Hopefully in your case it will all work out one way or another. Please keep us informed of your progress re resolving this problem.
