Only 8GB out of 16GB detected after CPU re-seat

Hi all,

I yesterday applied new thermal paste to my CPU and liquid cooler as I've done many times before. I took out the CPU, checked for bent pins etc, re-seated it ultra carefully and reinstalled paste and the cooler.

When I restarted my PC I noticed some issues with my clock speeds either being on max OC settings (4.2 Ghz) or fluctuating rapidly. I troubleshot this by again checking the CPU and pins, re-seating it and all was ok - going in now and I notice the CPU issue is solved but now only half of my RAM is showing up.

I have had 16 GB installed for 4 years, 4x4 GB (Nanya DDR-3 1600Mhz) in my P9X79 in DIMM_A1, B_1, D_1 and C_1 with no issues. I have reset my CMOS and checked the RAM by removing and re-seating but it's still only seeing 8GB. CPU-Z shows 16GB and in my BIOS it shows 4 sticks of 4GB RAM installed but at the top of the bios only 8GB.

I assume my RAM has gone bad? Anyone have any thoughts?

Many thanks

James

Checked Task Manager - screenshot below. Says only 2 DIMM slots in use? Says there is Committed memory of 16GB though and I don't understand the difference if I can be honest.

I want to revisit this as I'm still confused by the results. Please see what Speccy says:

Shows 16GB installed across 4 used memory slots. Yet Physical Memory is shown as 7.94GB with 85% utilisation - does anyone have any ideas why Windows 10 is only making use of 1/2 the installed RAM? Particularly as it is detected by the motherboard and other software programs?

Thanks
