Under device manager for graphics card it only shows the cpu graphics. Its a gtx 970. Im not sure if everything is correct. Just made this pc. The msi light is on and fans aint spinning but i only have one 8 pin connector connected. Not sure if other 6 pin needs to be plugged in or what. I tried plugging it in and then my pc wouldnt show video connection. Help please

Solution

Wrong.

Connect it to the GPU, plug in both PCIe power connectors, and boot.

Update your drivers, Download Geforce experience and download the latest drivers, If your PC can't connect to the internet because of no motherboard drivers, you will need either a CD disk drive and the CD the motherboard came with, Or a spare computer that can connect to the internet and a USB with enough space to hold the drivers to install onto your new PC.

Can you link me to the exact 970 you have? It shouldn't need more than 1 8 pin power connector to run, Did you install it correctly? It's pretty simple so I wouldn't expect you to have installed it wrong. What motherboard are you using?

It needs both 8-pin AND a 6-pin PCIe power connectors.

Plug in the 6-pin and you'll have a working GPU.

I plugged the other in earlier and when i turned my pc on again it wouldnt display video?

Hi,

Download the latest drivers from here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
Choose the right card, Windows version etc.
And later on check on the site from time to time to get the latest or tick the box in the nVidia control panel to automatically check for updates.

Yes You need to connect both PCIE power cables to the card, otherwise the power to the card will be insufficient.
Connect the monitor from one of its connectors to one of the graphic cards connectors that are appropriate for example HDMI, Displayport or DVI
What is the blue cord?

Best regards from Sweden

But I plugged it in earlier and when i turned my pc back on it didnt display video at all.

Have you made sure that the card is properly seated into the PCIE slot on the motherboard and also that it is mounted in the first PCIE slot on top or closest to the CPU?

Make sure that both PCIE power connectors are mounted correctly all the way into the corresponding graphic cards connectors.

The monitor cable has to be mounted to the graphics card.
Best regards from Sweden

And did you connected your monitor to the GPU and NOT to motherboard?
