Hello,

I have an RX 480 8GB nitro+, i have just completed resident evil 7 fine with no crashes.

When i play Counter Strike GO or Alan Wake, it crashes to a black screen and freezes the whole machine, with the music just stuck in the background, this could be after 10 mins playing it could be an hour or 2 hours.

I have tried rolling back drivers, same issue, i have done all memory tests for RAM, HDD check etc.

Im running windows 10 and the latest Crimson Driver.

Anyone have any ideas, it doesnt give me anything in the system log to say why it crashes.

Any help? thanks

Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster SA350 24" Connected VIA HDMI to Gfx card
Motherboard: GA-h61ma-d3v (with latest BIOS)
CPU: i5 3470
RAM: 2 x 4gb Ballistix DDR3
Graphics: Rx480 8gb Sapphire Nitro+ 8GB
Hard drive : 120gb SSD + 500gb HDD
PSU not sure on make without removing but is a 500w

Temps when playing games that crash - CPU can get to 70c to 80c - Graphics around 70c.

Ive noticed it mainly with Counter strike GO and Alan Wake which i have noticed are both Direct X 9 games.

I played Rise of the tomb raider all the way through without it crashing sometimes a few hours at a time. I played resident evil 7 and it crashed once after playing for around 3 hours.

CS GO and Alan wake can last up to 2 hours or as little as 15 min intervals before going to this play screen - the computer stays powered on and i just get a loud looping sound like from the headphones like a driver for the sound card has failed or something.

I have to hold the power button down, let it restart, then boot the game back up and its just random as to when its going to happen again.

I have cleared all drivers with DDU and tried old crimson drivers and the newest ones available. same story.

Could it be linked to direct X as it seems to happen more on older games? If you have any advice it would be much appreciated.

It sounds, at first hunch, to be the PSU perhaps getting old and intermittently fluttering just enough to cause a hang. I would do a disk and memory check/test just to be sure though if you haven't done them.

You might try to limit your frames in the older titles too. CSGO can be running at 200fps, but your monitor is only able to display 60. Capping can keep them from running too wild (stressful).

Seems dropping the clock speed and memory by around 100mhz on MSI afterburner has resolved the issue. No black screen on Alan wake, completed it now and then played CS GO for about 3 hours and didn't black screen.

Fingers crossed.
