PC having issues after GPU upgrade

Hello everyone,

Yesterday I upgraded my GPU from a GTX 770 to a GTX 1070. Once I installed the GPU and turned on my PC, it was running kind of slow. My first thought was drivers, so I updated and replaced the drivers using the Nvidia website. My PC started to run almost normally again. I say almost because I'm still having some issues. The first being my download speed within Chrome is going super slow. I normally get around 10+MBs and now its tanking. Programs like Steam seem to be unaffected. I also feel like videos on Youtube are not playing at 1080p (60fps when applicable) anymore.

I also noticed when I first installed the new GPU, my PC to significantly longer to load. Normally it takes less than ten seconds, but that time was at least doubled/tripled. Also, when I would sign in, my startup apps took almost five minutes for everything to fully load, where as they normally take 30 seconds at most. These last few problems seem to have dissipated, but it is worth mentioning I had these same issues when trying to install an SSD.

I'm tempted to just plug in my 770 again because my system ran great with it in. My specs are listed below. Any ideas on why this is happening?

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming 8gb
Case: Cooler Master HAF 922 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM 64-bit
Monitor: Asus VS247H-P 23.6" 1920x1080 Monitor
Keyboard: Microsoft SIDEWINDER X4 Wired Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Razer Razer Naga 2014 Wired Laser Mouse

Thanks,

You know what, I did not. That slipped my mind. I'll have to give that a shot later since I'm not home. I just went to the Nvidia site and downloaded/replaced the current drivers on my system.

Ok give it a try and let us know.

If that doesn't work just throw the 770 back in there and make sure nothing else broke.

If the card just doesn't work after the DDU and you do try the 770 and it works, I'd just RMA the card. It's what I did with my card.

This comment makes me wonder about how you installed this card. Didn't you download and install the latest drivers to start with?

I'd check to make sure Chrome is using hardware acceleration. On your bootup problems, I'd check to see what is booting up with Windows. That's a good thing to keep an eye on, you want the least amount of things automatically booting up as possible. You can always start programs later as you need them.

So I tried DDU and it wiped the drivers. Unfortunately it kept giving me black screens. I did a system restore to a point just before I used DDU. I tried plugging in the 770 again and it didn't seem to work right as I was getting 1 fps on low settings in Overwatch. I plugged the 1070 back in and made sure I had the driver from the Nvidia website installed and it seemed to be working? PC was still going slow. I was able to load up For Honor since I just installed it and all the settings were maxed out.

I might try to boot off of a new drive and see if thats the issue.

Anyone have any other ideas?
