i currently i have a amd a6 6400k and r7 240 2gb what should i upgrade them too i have a 600w power supply so i dont need to worry

You would not be able to reuse your current ram. 8gb is still sufficient for gaming. The graphics card is already factory overclocked, and as it doesn't have external power connection, I wouldn't expect it to go much higher. Current gen hardware, and AMD's Ryzen are designed for DDR4. If you do want 16gb ram, then this would be what you would be looking for price.

the mobo is a fm2 but would like to switch to an i5

Not a great unit, but not so bad that it would damage other hardware. Problem with going with an i5, would be that you would be stuck with a weak graphics card still. This is a little over, but would be far superior, to what you have, and give you an upgrade path. Another option would be to save up more, and wait for AMD Ryzen to release.
