Im going to build a pc soon. I will have a i7 7700k and 3000hz ram. I plan on overclocking the system but im getting real confused on how to overclock both CPU and ram. I understand that there is a method for getting the advertised speed of the ram is to use the XMP profile. I have seen threads where people say it does affect cpu clocks and others that say XMP doesn't.

Is it possible to manually OC my CPU while using the XMP profile?

If not, how do i set ram to the advertised frequency and overclock the cpu well? ( I think it involves setting the timings, the voltage, and maybe the frequency, then testing stability, then doing a standard cpu overclock.)

Solution
Yes. Set the XMP profile to on. Go into the bios and depending on your bios just increase the max core multiplier. It's actually really easy. If you get an Asus Mobo I can walk you through it.

You'll also have to tweak voltage though.

I can also point you in the right direction for tweaking your ram to a higher OC than the 3000 if you're really interested.
