I'm looking into upgrading my CPU. Current PC. I'm thinking to switch to intel but that means I would have to change my motherboard. I got a suggestion from user Nine Layer Nige to get
LGA Z170/Z270 mobo and Intel i5 6th or 7th gen CPU not AMD
, but I looked at it again and I thought it would be better to stay with AMD and get the AMD FX-9590 which would cost a lot less since i shouldn't have to get a new motherboard. Are there any better suggestions or which option would be better? Still researching some things but I would love help from people who know a lot more on computer hardware, thanks

Do not buy the FX 9590. Its 220 watt TDP means that all but the most expensive motherboards struggle to feed it enough power to be stable and that it produces more than twice as much heat as your current CPU which makes all but the largest coolers run really loud. To top it off, Windows only actually will be able to use four of its eight cores thanks to architectural mistakes on AMD's part. YouTube Link.

Your current motherboard's 4+1 phase power delivery is not enough to feed a 9590 and be stable.

Doooon't get the fx-9590. It might sound good but it's warmer than the sun and the single thread is not good.

Also your motherboard is not technically compatible with the 9590.

BUT.

As someone who went from an Fx-8350 to an i5 6600(non-k) I can give you the following advice;

If you swap to intel, go for an overclocking i5 at a minimum, overclocking i7 preferred.

In gaming my i5 6600 barely beats out my old fx8350, and I could have overclocked my fx8350 to beat it probably. However an overclocked 6600k would be a good amount faster.

BUT(2)

AMD Ryzen is only 2 weeks away. New processors, new options.

FX-9590 is essentially a well binned FX-8350 that has been overclocked.

It is a very poor choice and a power hog.
You need a top quality motherboard to run it.

Do not do it.

What is your budget? I have little doubt that a kaby lake upgrade can be done better at a reasonable price.

Very true, Ryzen is just around the corner.

Even then, you'd need to upgrade to an AM4 board. Simply put, AM3(+) and FM2(+) are dead. IMO, FM2+ was a joke.

AM4 will also be using DDR4 (don't know if there will be DDR3 boards or not). I also don't know if (assuming there are DDR3 boards) whether they'll require them to run at lower voltage (DDR3L) like Intel because DDR4 runs at said lower voltage.

I also recommend upgrading your power supply. Your current model offers plenty of wattage on its spec sheets, but it's rather low quality. The last thing you need is for it to send a surge through your new hardware and destroy it. Worst of all, it could start a fire. I'd rather not be the one that said you could keep it and then have it burn down your house.

I legit used to use an overclocked FX 8350 machine (5.2GHz) to heat my room. The heat output from the CPU and the two R9 280X cards (each at 1110MHz) was plenty enough to heat my room in the winter since I'm at the end of a duct that curves when it reaches my brother's room. Long story short, my bros room got all the heat in the winter.
