Hey guys, im planning on building a pc with ryzen.I use my computer for gaming and school work. I also want this build to be very future proof. Should i get the 6/12 ryzen or the 4/8? Thanks!

"gaming and school work."
I see no reason as to why you'd need 6/12, 4/8 is perfect, if thats all you're doing.
also the word "futureproof" in the world of PC building, doesnt exist ;D technology advances, today's tech starts becoming outdated tomorrow, so nothing is ever "futureproof".

With that said, like what weberdarren97 said, theres not enough info on the unreleased tech yet, but from everything shown so far, the 6/12+ is there for those that go intel because they need the extra cores and threads for applicaitons that NEED them (calculations, conversion, compression...etc) Gaming has yet to fully use all 4 cores of current gen CPUs so getting 6/12 will just be a waste of money...for a long long time.
IF $$ is not an issue, get...
While I'm sure many will give you a direct answer, I'd like to add that we don't yet have much information on how AMD SMT compares to Intel HyperThreading. Without this information, I'd like to say 6/12 but it would be a waste of your money if SMT turns out to be comparable to HyperThreading.

My official answer: I don't yet have enough information to give you a definite answer.

IF $$ is not an issue, get 6/12, you may not have any use for the extra cores and threads, but...if you have the $$ for it, its nice to know you got em (?!)
I build to save money and because I know I'm going to have to upgrade in the future because theres always going to be something faster, so I see no point in spending more for something I wont be fully using now, and later its going to be replaced by something faster, why not save now so I can save again in the future.

sorry for the length...post. its hard to choose when theres not enough info. so far there's only word from AMD and showcases, wait for reviews to pop up.
