I've been having an issue recently, in which it sounds like my PSU makes a very occasional grinding noise, it seems to only happen under heavy load

Any help you could provide would be appreciated, if it means anything, the computer is second hand, but was only used for around two weeks

It sounds like the PSU huh? OKAY! So, is it? I have the most sophisticated test in the history of forever. The paper towel cardboard thingy inside of the paper towels? It is a multi million dollar device. Hold to ear and hold to PC. Open side panel first. The focused listening device will help narrow down where(oh where are you tonight) the sound is coming from.

It's definitely the PSU, I should have said

I would immediately replace the PSU. That could include starting an RMA or a simple exchange with the retailer. It's a manufacturing error that is no fault of your own. Pay for return shipping? HA! Will I pay for your mistake? No. Without this complication I would not return it. Because of this slip in quality control I have no choice to return it.

There is not a software I know that knows the PSU's temp.. Apart from a infrared thermometer gun or similar device that can take its temperature the grinding can indicate a bad sleeve, bearing or other issue which will directly impact cooling.

Warranties are sometimes transferable. If not, replacing the PSU with your own finances is your best option.

Wow thanks I've been having this problem aswell! Exactly the same power supply but not under heavy load or anything it just does it whenever. I unfortunately don't have anything else except the psu itself as I bought it from amazon but I'll try buying a new one 😅 thanks though you may have saved my life 😅
