BIOS can't see both my hard drives (but it used to)

My Win7 system has two hard drives - boot and second. Worked fine for years. Now BIOS only shows second hard drive so can't boot. If I disconnect the second drive, BIOS shows the boot drive and it boots. If I shut down and reconnect the second drive, I'm back seeing just the second drive. I can repeat this process with no changes. How do I get the system to see, and use, both drives? Since I can see both drives (separately) in the BIOS, both are connected to the system. I'm at a loss as to what to try next. Any idea why this would happen after working for years.
