Static IP Problems

I recently created a static IP so that I could forward some ports for a game. For the first couple hours everything was okay and then I started seeing massive dips in my internet's speed. I then ran a speed test and the results were along the lines of 62 ms/1mb download/1 mb upload.

I was searching for solutions online and when I came across this, I thought it would fix things, but it only made matters worse. I entered [netsh interface ipv4 set address "Local Area connection" static ...] into my command prompt without really knowing what it does.

I panicked and switched back to my normal dynamic IP and things went back to normal: around 7 ms/50mb download/10mb upload. I forwarded ports fora video game called For Honor to get an open NAT type as opposed to a moderate NAT type.

I'm wondering what I can do to set up my static IP properly so that it maintains the same internet speed and ping as when I don't use the static IP.

I appreciate any help!

Enter the LAN or DHCP section in your routers settings and bind your MAC address to the static IP you want, make sure the IP address you set is on the same subnet but outside the DHCP range. Try not to run commands when you do not know the purpose of those commands!!

It was a bad mistake and I wish I could do something to delete or remove that command. I am sort of new with playing around with router settings and what not so how exactly do I bind my MAC address to the static IP?
