backup over internet to NAS

I need to backup more computers to a Synology DS 215j , but i haven't got good software to do it.I need to backup over the internet.The Synology software is not good for me.I need a soloution.Thx for help!(write me if i created this question in a wrong topic)

Am surprised Synology wouldn't have the instruction how to do this across the Internet. Basically there should be 2 options:

1. Open port(s) on Internet router to talk to Synology directly, but this is unsecured, unless Synology provides some sort of encrypted FTP service or something.

2. Establish VPN tunnel, this automatically encrypts everything sent through the tunnel. More daunting to setup.
