Anyway to turn on/off (toggle) the various SATA connectors on this MOBO? I always like to check my clones (backups) to make sure they cloned and will boot. Only way I've found so far is to physically remove the Primary HD SATA cable to get the clone to show in the drive boot list.

Since it is a cloned drive -- both drives have the same signature - the MOBO
will recognize only one HD drive -- even though both are physically connected. One would think both drives would show so one could choose which to boot.

Search your BIOS for an option/setting that enables/disables each SATA port separately? If it doesn't have such an option and only gives you the option to enable or disable the SATA controller or all the ports, you have to manually remove the cables. You could also get a 5 1/4 SATA back-plane, put all your drives there and every time that you want to disable a drive, you just have to remove it from the back-plane.

panathas: Thanks for input.
Was hoping someone knew if BIOS upgrade that would ID each SATA contoller
-or-
if I'm missing something in the BIOS as I can't find a separate SATA list.

Never heard of a 5 1/4 SATA back-plane but will check it out. Thanks.

Unfortunately most BIOSes don't have such an option. They only allow you to disable or enable all the SATA ports, and a BIOS upgrade wouldn't change anything. Usually BIOS upgrades don't add features, they only fix bugs and increase system stability and compatibility.

If your case has some free 5 1/4 slots, a SATA back-plane may help you. You could also get an external USB 3.0 enclosure and put your drive there. After the cloning process is finished, get into the BIOS and choose the external USB 3 drive as the first boot device.

panathas:
I already use a removable HD carriage to clone my backup. Single drive instead of the back-plane you mentioned.
Guess I can get another removable HD carriage for the Primary HD and that should solve my problem.
Kinda DUMB that BIOS not SATA software switchable.

Thank you for your input.
