hello !
i just build a new pc but forgot to install the standoff screws :/
it worked fine for 3 weeks. and now when i turn it on it will keep restarting without showing the boot menu. Could it be my problem ? :)

Solution
Pins for what? The power supply connector to the motherboard?

If it was starting when taking the back plate off that's not good. The 2 pins for the power button were shorting somehow.

Forgetting 2 standoffs out of 9 isn't bad. Depends on the location. The motherboard can flex pretty bad if some standoffs are missed and break a copper trace.

I wouldn't be surprised if the motherboard got damaged. Or it's improperly installed. Double check all the cabling and installation.
Uh yeah, probably.

So your motherboard is just propped up in your case?
I don't see how you could build a PC without using screws... and if you didn't use standoffs - how did your back panel I/O line up?

Something doesn't seem right. But yeah, build the computer correctly - then test it.

Without the standoffs your motherboard is directly against the case back plate. This will cause the motherboard to short and be damaged. The only reason you may not get damage is if the back plate is painted and therefore non conductive and you got very lucky.

Also without the standoffs the back connectors won't line up with the back shield. The motherboard will be a bit low by the height of the standoffs. The only way to line it up would be to flex the motherboard.

Did you forget every standoff or just a couple? Was the motherboard installed directly against the case? Please explain further.

then i try to fix it with a screwdriver and it seems pretty good now. so i put it all back together but it still dont work :/
