Hi all, I'm going to purchase (sometime in the near future) a sound card for my PC. I'm looking at a fairly high end one, but just wanted to know, when I get it, can I or should I, still use the USB DAC/AMP that I got with my Astro a40 headset, with the optical cable for audio, or will I get higher quality audio with the headset plugged straight into the sound card? Following on from this, if so, would another, higher quality, external USB DAC/AMP increase my sound quality further, or would it make no difference. I'm thinking of buying a Creative Sound Blaster ZxR sound card, in case that makes a difference to the answer I'll get. Cheers.

One of the purposes of a sound card is to a digital signal from your computer to an analog signal that can be listened to. This is also the purpose of a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter). Pretty sure using the optical audio to connect your DAC would basically circumvent the sound card and make it pointless. As to which headset port is better, that would depend on whether your sound card is better than your DAC.
