I just got the nighthawk X 10. I'm sorry, but I'm illiterate when it comes to some of the terms. So I do not want it hooked to a modem is there a way I can hook it up to something else. I have the samsung 65 in 4k uhd curve tv and the router I already have is going to stay hooked up to the modem. I bought this for my personal use for my TV and a couple other things. I don't get very good signals in my b basement. I was getting kind of confused reading this article and a couple others

What you want is a repeater and not an additional router OR you replace your old router with the Nighthawk. You mentioned you have a router and I am pretty sure that you have one provided by your ISP which has the modem included. Return the Nighthawk if you can and simply get a repeater which connects to your WiFi and then hook up your TV. If you want a cable-solution then get a switch and some cables.
