Recently I had a hard drive go bad, so I went out and bought a new one. Today I have spent many hours trying to figure out why the BIOS will not detect my hard drive. I try to install windows and the drive is not found there either, so not only in the BIOS is it not detected. For my BIOS it says "Not Supported" I have tried all of my SATA plugs, none work. The hard drive boots up and spins but the PC will not recognize it. Please help!

Hey there, Pickcory.

I'm with @Colif on this one, you should try resetting or updating the BIOS and also try the drive with a different SATA cables.
As for the drive not being recognized by the Windows installation media - this is normal, since the HDD is not seen by the motherboard at all. Give it a try with a different computer as well, by connecting it either externally or internally, to see if it's recognized and if it is, download its manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test it for bad sectors and errors.

Hope that helps.

In the BIOS setup make sure that Primary IDE Drive zero is ready to auto, then boot. If this does not work, then your troublshooting looks to point either a nasty IDE cable or a nasty IDE port.

Try swapping the cables between the first and Secondary IDE channels from the motherboard to the drive to eliminate the cable as the culprit.

no i did not

SATA cables are cheap, but take time to go get so if you have an optical drive, borrow one from that.

I've had molex power cables, printer cables, ethernet cables, IDE cables, floppy cables, and SATA cables go bad. They are only rated for a surprisingly low number of insertions so I tend to try a new cable first!
