Is my processor at fault?

I have had a problem with freezing since I got the computer built back in September.

Since then I have switched the motherboard, PSU and ram and the freezing continued. I have tried disconnecting the graphics card and using the on-board. I have used different hard drives also.

I have tested every piece of hardware. I have tried windows and Linux but still the problem persists.

So the question is am I missing something or is possibly the CPU?

I was assured everything was compatible, partpicker says everything is compatible also. The reason I haven't gone back to the shop is because I got it in Spain; I live in Ireland.

Build is as follows:

INTEL CORE I7 6700
ASUS B150M.A M.2
HYPERX FURY BLACK DDR4 2133 SANDISK SSD PLUS 240GB
SEAGATE HDD 1TB
GTX 750 TI 2GB
700W ATX V2.3 PSU
ARCTIC REFR FREEZER 7 PRO

Thanks for your time people!

Hello... Observe the time of the freezes and look at the log, the OS recorded in the Event Viewer...

APPs Calls can cause them... and OS Calls can cause them... and hardware can cause them...

1) Do you have any red or yellow marks in your control panel-Device manager?
2) kernel 41 errors mean the OS was not properly shut down... either by You OR the hardware.

Here is the Windows event debug screen.

You NEED to be logged on as administrator to the OS...

Let's see what the OS is reporting as the error... Right click computer-manage-System Tools-Event Viewer-Windows Logs-System/Applications/Security.... Click on the "RED" errors, for more information, General/Details... and files/drivers/Apps, comments/suggestions/information associated with them B )

Expanding Window panes and Posting screen images from here will help Us, help you faster... But copy and posting text will work too B )

Not sure if that's sufficient?

Just let me know what else you need!

Hello... OK THX... you have plenty of the same types... Lets just concentrate a certain common type... you can now click on EACH error # type and get another Window opened... there will be a General/Detail-system Panes... Clicking these will give you more details and clues to the what APP/CALL/driver/hardware? is causing your grief.

*1) Do you have any red or yellow marks in your control panel-Device manager?

Typically Distributed Com errors can be OS crapware or other Trial/freeware APPs trying to get you to sign on or checking/nagging your OS for acceptance or access. When you find One of them, make the decision to buy or remove it from your system.

3) Another place to look is your "Task scheduler" there will be Windows default maintenance items and set times for them... Look them over... sometimes a "scheduled" activity is not needed or set for a time when you are using your computer. Some of the these items needs to be there at BOOT time, for the OS... some are just plain stupid and constantly doing things in the background.

Okay I have no markers in device manager, and it's a fresh install of Windows 10.

The same problem has existed on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. All I have installed is antivirus, Chrome and CoreTemp.

Considering this problem has existed over these operating systems and also Linux is it possible it's the processor? Or could it be a faulty wire even??

I'll be able to investigate event viewer in more detail tomorrow.

Hello... a Fresh "non-custom" install of any Windows OS installs "crapware" and the nagging problems (media player-IE-Bling-Cortana-MS online store-MS TV on demand-?)... CPU's are really tuff and I never had a problem with one... one thing that happens a lot is not using the proper driver for your revision # of the MB (they change hardware/chips on them)... But you have no yellow or RED marks in the device manager B /

Well the Event Viewer is a log of what going on in any kind of OS or machine... typically if a hardware failure/communications/power problem, you will have kernel 41 errors and Hard shut downs due to the hardware/Power problems. If you shut off power to the Computer and NOT exit the OS properly, you will get a Kernel 41 recorded/Logged.

Yes... take the time to look over your error details and I'm sure you will see a pattern to them or the File/Name/location of the APP/CALL that keeps repeating. B )

Okay I'll report back in the morning.

Any idea why the problem would persist in Linux? After all the changes and troubleshooting I just can't explain that

Hello... not Linux guy here... and now that you know there is logging going on in the background, you might be able to answer that question yourself B ) use the Tools/Clues provided. You don't want just guesses thrown out to you, do you? I always ask "show me the DATA" first... Or "try this simple test" B D

Just saying "my computer crashed' does not automatically make me or someone else know immediately what the problem is... There are a lot of Parts, tiny connections, wires and ? involved... and it takes having spare parts around to create tests for each of them.

Having a system you can complete loading a OS on is a good sign. But some parts can get intermittent problems through their use and electrical heating. The Event Viewer should report these loss of communications with the hardware and the drivers to these chips.

Okay so my computer froze late last night at 3.03 am. From reading through the event viewer the only thing I can see around that time is

Event ID: 903 Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP

After that it froze. I've done a little digging but this is hardly what's killing my computer?

Hello... Security is very serious mater with a Win10 OS system... and will be fast and high on the list of reasons to Stop the OS and Apps running.

Microsoft also has default "Maintenance" scheduled times at 3AM... did you check your "Task scheduler" as I mentioned before? click there to see what has run in the "last 24 hours" and their times... Change the "Time" or remove the Task.

1) Please describe the freeze...
2) What were doing at the time "APPS running?"
3) What was your recovery method from the "freeze"
4) "show me the DATA"
5) Are you running more than one security APP in your OS? that's a NO NO...
6) What are your security settings?
