Hello!

So I'm looking into content creation, video editing, photo editing. But I'm not too serious with it, I'm not interest in all that 4K rendering and crazy stuff. I'm a high school student and just need to get work done along with having the specs to create animations, light video editing without any problems. I currently have a MacBook (Mid-2010 Unibody) and I have been thinking, should I add an SSD and upgrade to 8GB of ram? Or should I purchase a second hand MacBook Pro 2009 and onwards and upgrade that instead.

Thanks.

Solution
If you can find cheap RAM and an SSD then you may as well just upgrade what you've got. If you find down the line that you're not quite getting the performance you want then look at upgrading. You can always pull the upgraded RAM and SSD back out and sell them or re-use them if you buy another MacBook down the line.

Is the core 2 duo fine for handling light editing?

It'll do it, but rendering will be slow-ish.
