Would it be worth it to upgrade from a 980 ti lightning to sli 1080's?

''Is it worth it to do this or am I wasting money? ''

only you can determine that when its all said and done

I did sli when I was a kid and after it was all said and done I determined that sli means S-udden L-oss of I-ncome . for me one good strong card does all I need just fine , but then a lot of guys feel its still the greatest thing since ice cream .

and the way NVidia keeps jacking around with it ??? extyra heat - extra power - extra dust - extra maintenance - driver and program headaches , poor optimization or changing optimization s ect......

itm was fun to play around with it and test things and all but I don't see going back to it any time soon myself , but as they say ''to each his own '''

and I feel you would need at least a solid top tier/ build quality 850w psu at min.. a grand would be better

by the way my 980 ti still seems to do all I ask of it real well ???

Yeah I can't complain I guess. I have a rog swift pg278q, I can't really max this monitor out so I was looking for something to push it further.

If I were to get just one of these cards would the performance increase be remotely worth it? I know I could sli the 980 ti but I really only wanted to do that if I could find the same card, unfortunately these cards are rather hard to find and I would like the option to return it if sli isn't something I like.

1080 Sli for 1440p? That's overkill by a 1080. A single 1080 will more than max everything at 1440p. My 980 Ti lets me max everything at 1440p. Maybe not at 100FPS but I get playable framerates on every game I play with maxed image quality settings. Well except Mankind Divided but that game's a beast. I do have to selectively reduce a few settings there.

Wait for the 1080 Ti or Volta or whatever it is they are announcing in a few weeks. Supposedly the 1080 Ti is in full production and will be available from day one. Not a paper launch like most cards. It took me almost a month to find a 980 Ti in stock right after they were released. A single, more powerful card is always better than multiple card setups.

@anort3, I can confirm as a 1080 owner that it actually isn't overkill for 1440p, Arma 3 = Medium-high settings 50-65 fps.
Witcher 3 = Ultra, Hairworks Geralt, 4x MSAA 70fps.
H1Z1 = High settings, 2500 draw distance= 90ish fps.
There's much more room for improvement.

like others have said, wait for 1080Ti. SLi is not as good as you think. Plus its makes headaches whenever new game released. Stick with one gpu is the best. I am done with crossfire 2x R9-280 which in the end gave the similar result (when crossfire work optimized) as a gtx 1060 with half power, no hassle and most of all same price as I sold those 2 used R9-280 for financing the new 1060 (when first released in my country).

[single card ]
I was looking here at these scores and this was the top 1080 with my cpu - 15260

and my gtx 980 ti with a 4670 non k - 14244

I got to assume 2 1080s cosrt a bout a grand and another 980ti about 400 bucks ?? for that slight gain I assume your going to get from the 1080 investment ?? then I guess you hope you get 2 good luck of the draw cards s well ??

I could see if you were coming from a gtx 650 or something , but ?????

funny thing is don't know why there are no sli scores for the 1080 results ???

I like to use non k cpu to look at scores so that eliminates any CPU overclocking that influences the scores of the GPU's

bottom line is its your time and money to do as ''YOU'' want to do and what you feel is best . if you don't do it you just don't know in the end

good luck

I hope it more then a 17mhz clock increase like with 10 series there not getting much out of that anyway and if they do i'll bet overclocking head room is all used up I don't believe it going to be a game changer when all's said and done .

like evga cards for example the lowly sc and there better classy is only 13 MHz then look at the power draw just to do that ?? not like the old days when that would of been 90 or something close

I look at that and wonder why get a classy for just 13 MHz ?? then 150$ more for it ?? then look at the pascal titan if you still can seems no longer available ??? maybe some old stock .

I right for now don't see where this 1080 ti will show any real benefits maybe extra LED lighting and 2 gb of memory extra ????

I guess time will tell when there in real life hands not rumor leaks ??

http://www.evga.com/products/Compare.aspx

Well it's going to be the full fat GP102 with two less SMs, should perform the same as or slightly better than the Titan XP due to the coolers and custom PCBs.
Also its not a rumor leak, its pretty much been officially announced, the Nvidia website shows a teaser that says "It's almost Ti me" with a countdown to GDC and the tag #UltimateGeForce.
I don't know how much more literal it could get than that.

rumor leak . whats confirmed ??

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Specifications -- TBA --- sounds confirmed to me more like keep the hype up ,lol...

I'm sure though its got to be some what better but then its still pascal ''should perform the same as or slightly better than the Titan XP'' now how readily available are them cards now ??? I see newegg got plenty of them , not ..

like I say , when its real life retail and ready to add to cart and deliver in 5 days then i'll believe what I see . not from all the sucker bait

Did you click the geforce website? That countdown appeared today. Here in case your mouse is broken.

Now the rumors say that this card was going to be paper launched a couple of months ago but since there was no word of competition from AMD they waited and since they waited there will be a real launch with fully custom cards available from day 1. Those are the rumors. The official website with the countdown timer? That's official. If that's not official nothing is.
