My current system specs are I7 4790k, R9 Fury x, 16 gb ram, z97 gigabyte gaming 3 mobo, and 850 watt gold evga power supply.

I'm currently having a problem with Total War Warhammer. Whenever I click on a popup, (for example in the campaign map) or i get a notification of a new quest that is available. My screen begins flickering horribly. It's a huge distraction from the game and I can't look at the screen because it hurts my eyes when it happens. I've tried resintalling my graphics drivers, my fury x is not overclocked (surprisingly lol), reinstalling the game, verifiying the data on steam, and more. My latest option was to do a complete reinstallation of windows where everything was wiped completely and new drivers (freshly downloaded) were installed. The option persists. Please advise. I'm playing at 4k resolution. I switched to 1080p and 1440p to check if it was that and the issue persisted. At this point I'm out of ideas. So I bring this problem to you.

I also tried setting the graphics settings to low just in case that was the problem but the issue persisted. I tried all other graphical presets as well, with the addition of enabling and disabling vsync with each. This had no effect unfortunately.

I've posted a video of the flickering. It seems to be something with the lighting. I literally can't look at the screen when this happens. It seems to be white flashes or something.

Solution
What happens when you record the game directly with whatever capturing software amd has. Does the flashing show up there? Have you tried running the monitor at 60hz with freesync disabled? Some games act weird with variable refresh rate features enabled.

O that's a terrific idea. I hadn't even thought about trying to record the screen while it was happening. I'll try that tonight when I get home. And the monitor is always at 60hz and I will try disabling freesync as well. Thank you!

Just an update to this situation. Turns out freesync was the culprit. Thank you for your reply. I disabled free sync and the issue cleared right up. Unfortunately it's not as smooth as before but hell I'll take it. Anything to get rid of that damn flickering. lol Thank you!
