Overclocking phenom x4 over 4hz?

So I don't know much about Overclocking, I just clocked my phenom x4 on my motherboard m5a88-m, and it's fine, but i'm having some lag in dark souls 3, the fps is at 60 but sometimes it goes to 52-55 and it really sucks, i'm trying to get only about 5 more fps on dark souls 3.

So I went to the motherboard and there were the multipliers, 3.4,3.6,3.8 and 4.0 hz, but i want to go a little bit over that. My CPU temperature on 4HZ is about 60 degrees under stress, the maximun that i got since the overclock was 64, so I think that I can overclock just a little bit more to get some FPS.

1. Overclocking your CPU only gives you more FPS if your GPU is not limiting (something we do not know as you did not list it) and also if the game itself heavily relies on CPU

2. You only set the multiplier but you also have to check the base clock and in addition to that the voltage. Anyway, the multipliers on Phenoms are between 14 and 20 or so and not in the one digit area. What you tuned was propably your RAM. To check on how to OC go over here: http://www.overclockers.com/step-guide-overclock-amd-phenom/

3. Its called Ghz. Your phenom is running at Gigahertz not Hz. Or 4000000000 Hz if you want.

4. If I remember correctly the max. Temp for any phenom is around 80 degree. Run a heavy test like CPUBurn to check your temps and see how it goes. Games ARE NOT an inidicator for a stable CPU.

So I did some tests and I have some things to say

1-it's at 3.9 ghz, not 4
2-I downloaded amd overdrive, tried to get the multiplier from 9x to 15x.

result: a message saying overclocking failed, i went to the BIOS and set it to 3.9 again

3-tried to get the multiplier from 9x to 10x.
result: at first it looked fine, that loading ball from windows 10 was spinning, and then it stopped. windows 10 froze, i restarted the PC and went back to 3.9 hz on the BIOS, now it's working normally.

Read the Guide I posted. You can not simply set up the multiplier and expect it to work. The fact that your system froze means that your CPU needs more power. But anyway, if your GPU is limiting OC your CPU wont do much. How about posting your system here?

it's pretty much an hyper 212x equivalent, just a bit weaker.
It's a PCYES K Z3, as i know it's not sold outside brazil.

Uh this is really hard, my voltage is 1425 and that looks high, look at this screenshot of the overdrive
OgXcRRl.jpg

my GPU is and 7850 2GB, 8GB ram(ddr3), corsair 750w PSU, 3 fans and the cooler PCYES K Z3

I overclock my GPU on the radeon overdrive, but I didn't got any further than 1050hmz, i don't know if I should.

OC to a higher level is hard and not a 3 button-thing. 1.425 is quite high already. When I was benching Phenom II most of them died at around 1.5V. That means that you are decreasing the life span of your phenom quite well. Read the guide and try to understand it. Do not just simply up the voltage and think thats it. Also do not OC via tools, always via BIOS.

Also now we know what GPU you have, we can say that for Dark Souls 3 you are at Min. Requirements. That means no matter how high you get your CPU, you wont see that much of a difference. IMHO it is not worth it to kill your CPU over 5fps more.

It's at 1425 by default, i was always afraid of changing the voltage. but i got a really great fps difference from going from 3.;4 ghz to 3.9 ghz, about 10-20 fps, really. yesterday, for some reason, my pc went back to 3.4 ghz, I tried to play ds3 and even without the FPS counter I felt that it was really bad.

I installed that new cooler like yesterday, yes, it's running at 60C, but that's great because the temperature here is like 40C at day and 25 at night currently(it's summer)
So, if i'm at 1.425 volts, and I can't get more than a 9X multiplier, If I go with a lower voltage, I may be able a 10 or 12x OC to get it working?
