Will the Radeon RX 500 series be able to compete with Nvidia's Pascal?

Solution
There hasn't been a release date yet more than "first half of 2017" which probably means late spring or later (would expect a similar launch date as the rx480)

Since nobody has tested these chips yet as they aren't released no-one can say for sure.

But given that the Rx480 is already at the level of a 1060 and that unlike CPUs GPUs advance quite a bit with every generation, I assume the weaker rx500 cards will compete with a 1070 while the top line will be a good deal faster than the 1080. Everything else wouldn't make much sense to release.

amd already competing with pascal. just missing the high end right now because it seems AMD are quite insistent to have their flagship to last for almost 2 years before replacing them.

7970 - december 2011
290X - october 2013
Fury X - june 2015
Vega - Q2 2017

i think i see some where that Navi (vega successor) was slated on 2019 time frame and was supposed to be built on GF 7nm process. so when nvidia coming out with their volta we most likely going to see what we see right now: AMD leaving nvidia uncontested on the high end for 1 year.
