Sony Smart TV causing huge lag spikes and packet loss

I've purchased a Sony Smart TV model: KDL-32W605D. Whenever the TV is connected to the network I experience huge latency spikes (1k+) or packet loss every 20-30 seconds when pinging the router or google DNS servers.

I have a pretty crappy router, an Ubee DDW262 but it's the only one my ISP provides for HFC. I've never had any problem with it and the problem solves itself as soon as I disconnect the TV from the network. So I´m not exactly sure if the router is the problem here.

Currently the TV is connected through WiFi but when connected to ethernet the problem was worse, packet loss or latency spikes every 5 seconds or so. Frankly I'm lost here since I've tried updating the TV firmware, disabling automatic updates and a factory reset.

Found someone with a similar case but no solution here: https://community.sony.com/t5/Television-General/High-network-ping-and-packet-loss-on-Bravia-Android-TV-KDL/td-p/607389

Any ideas?

Could just be a problem with the TV or the NIC in the TV. I have a Sony surround sound with WiFi and wired Ethernet. The WiFi never did work right and the wired connection, when in use causes massive CRC error on my switch. I sent it in the be serviced. They replaced the the NIC, but it did not help much. You may want to consider try a streaming device like a Roku or get the TV serviced or replaced.
