I have a lenovo h50-55 with a 180 watt psu and msi r7 240 gpu and I used the amd radeon settings to overclock my gpu to it's max. Is this bad? and what will happen. also Should I get a better power supply? if so plz tell me what one I should get.

thanks

I think you are asking the wrong question jungle14man. The question should be 'are you getting enough extra performance from that 240 to justify overclocking it?'

If the answer is no then don't overclock it. Your computer can run on that 180W power supply if you leave things at stock speed.
Overclocking (whether CPU or GPU) requires very stable voltages.

If this was a 300w dell unit I would feel fine with your setup, but since you are using lenovo (i honestly dont know how their PSUs perform for gaming) and it is 180w I would certainly air on the side of caution and get a better unit.

Your current setup would only need a 300w psu but considering for $10-15 more you can get good 500w units that will support any future upgrades or support using it in your next PSU it is a no brainer to plan ahead.

Now what country are you in, and is your PC the normal size is it a small for factor one (if your CD drive is vertical and not horrizantal then it is likely a small form factor one).

Am I correct in assuming, based on the 180w power supply, that your PC has a very compact case? If so, that might be a proprietary PSU, with possibly nonstandard connectors, or nonstandard shape. This is, though, just a guess based on one or two experiences of my own.

The R7 240 is a very low powered card (30W TDP), so I can't imagine it going much higher in terms of power draw, even if overclocked as high as it can go.

It would help to know the CPU you have, as well as other components, so a total power demand can be estimated.
