Hi guys!

I want to buy RX 460 but I'm not sure which version I should choose. There are cards with 6 pin power connector and without it. Does this additional power connector make cards more powerful ?

The next problem is that I have 350W PSU. There is my model : SilentiumPC 350W Elementum E1 SI 85+

https://www.silentiumpc.com/en/silentiumpc-elementum-e1-si-85-350w/

Specifications:

Input: 200 ~ 240V / 47 ~ 63 Hz / 3,15A
Output +5V: 15A
Output +3.3V: 20A
Output +12V: 28A
Output -12V: 0.3A
Output +5VSB: 2.2A
output +12V: 336W
combined output +3.3V and +5V: 95W
Combined continuous power: 350W

28A on 12 V : I read that rx 460 need ~21A on 12V, so this PSU will be enough ?

I have:

- Intel Pentium G4560 - so this cpu doesn't need much power.

- 8GB DDR4 2400Mhz

- Motherboard: MSI B250M PRO-VD.

I found this review of rx460 - but this is version with 6 pin power connector

http://www.techspot.com/review/1221-amd-radeon-rx-460/page8.html

And on load this card use around 160 W.

Sry for my bad knowledge and english ;)

460 is still a solid entry card for the price, doesn't matter what people say. Using websites like http://www.game-debate.com/ is a good way to test your PC specs compared to what they recommend for each game.

For the record, 4gb will always be better than 2gb but it depends on your budget and intentions :)

hope it all goes well for you pal

The need for more pins on a PCIE doesn't necessarily mean its better. Brands of graphic cards are all the same card however its said that the cards are better at different things. An example of this is that in terms of nvidia cards; EVGA clock their cards a litter higher than other brands where as Asus (specifically the strix cards) are said to be better at overclocking :)

in regards to your power, it depends on a few more attributes that just your cpu, gpu and ram. Assuming you are using around 2 hard drives at 7.2 rpm, a gaming keyboard + mouse and maybe a few more fans, Cooler Master's PSU calculator puts your rig at about approx 280W. 400W sounds like a more sensible idea with room to upgrade but you may get away with a 350W depending on your entire rig :)

hope this helps

^^ Well said. I would opt for the400w too. Would also opt for a rx460 with 6-pin connector since it will likely draw less power through the motherboard. As opposed to upper end cards that require external power source since they need more than 75-watts the PCI slot can provide.

ok so I think I will take rx460 with 6-pin connector, but this power, 350W will be too weak for this set?

if rx460 on load take around 160W + cpu 57W + motherboard ~30W + 8GB DDR4 ~5W + HDD ~12W = 234W

so 350W seems enough, or not ?

hmm so if this is TOTAL power used so maybe I could use rx470 with this 350W ? :D

I play only Dota2, but I want to play this game on Full HD on minimum 50-60fps and I'm still thinking that this rx460 could be too weak.

I have FreeSync monitor so even on low fps game should looks quite smooth, so I'm not sure that I need better and more expensive rx470. But maybe if I wouldn't have to switch my PSU I should choose rx470? xD

Ehh but however, if I take rx460 then 2GB or 4GB? I know that the huge different between these 2 options is in DOOM, but in Dota2?

DOTA 2 isn't very demanding to my memory.

More VRAM is always better but 2GB will do fine for Dota 2 and in regards for doom, you'll need more than 2GB if you are looking to play anything above medium ;)

no I play only Dota2 :D I said about Doom only to show that 4GB sometimes is better than 2GB :) I didn't find any similar test in dota2, but if you say that dota is not very demanding to memory so I have to believe you ;) I think I will choose this rx 460 2GB from XFX + 6 pin power connector. I hope I will not regret ;)
