Hello Sports fans!
So here's the down and dirty. Recently (like in the last 10 days) I'm seeing unexplained screen locks. Basically I can be doing anything that causes a screen change (opening a browser, starting a game, etc). The screen will go dark (usually black) some times I can still see the mouse pointer but this is rare. The only thing I can is shutdown (hold the power button). then restart. it all comes back up and the only errors I find (in system log) is windows telling me that the last restart was unexpected (duh). I've flashed the bios, deleted the upgraded the GPU drivers. Nothing appears to be overheating and to make matters worse it's random as snowflakes...sometimes goes hours without an incident.

I was about to blow up the OS and do a clean install because this initally had the smell of one of those old problems I used to see with the sleep\hibernate issues. But I honestly believe it has something to do with the GPU. Windows appears to be running fine in the background throughout the whole ordeal. My in-game friends tell me that to them it looks as if I just stepped away from the keyboard without telling them.

Am I seeing the beginning of the end for my GPU or some other component or is this some malicious code? I run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Windows Defender (both up-to-date) with no problems reported.
Anybody run into this or have some suggestions? Any suggestions (I own a good sturdy sledge hammer...just saying). Any help\suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

here's the system as it currently exist.

well yeah it could be on its last legs and not giving enough wattage to the GPU and that is what I think is happening the best info I have on a new PSU is as follows.

PSU Tier list tier 1-2 are good for gaming
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

I would recommend an EVGA SuperNova Gold G2 / GS / GQ, Platinum P2 / PS, or Titanium T2 or a Seasonic M12-II Evo or S12-II

GOOD PSU EVGA is a B2, G2, P2, GS, PS, or T2. Avoid the EVGA B1 and G1 series
