I have noticed laggyness and delay between switching tabs on google chrome. Sometimes when I'm browsing, the browser will pause and not respond. It will come up with the spinning wheel (I am using a Mac)

May someone tell me what component is causing my browser to be really sluggish and delayed? Is it the RAM? HDD? CPU?

Specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo
RAM: 2GB
HDD: 250GB 5400rpm

Before I look into upgrading, I first want to find out what component is causing the sluggish experience and laggyness when browsing on Google Chrome.

Thanks

In this case, all of them
The CPU is weak so it takes time to process/render.
the 2GB RAM is not enough for modern OS with few tabs open in a browser.
The HDD is too slow to quickly load the data from page file/swap.

So most beneficial would be upgrading the RAM to at least 4GB.

All of them may cause it.
Usually when your ram gets full, OS starts to use HDD which may lead to slow response, since HDD is slow.
Also your CPU may be used @ 100% since its old CPU.
By upgrade, you mean to change the entire MAC i guess, since its pretty old and is not worth it to invest ANY money into upgrading it.

My money is on the HDD, find a Mac tool for reading HDD SMART values and check counts for re-allocated sectors or high fly writes. If the laptop has been moved around while its in use, the HDD will take a beating.

Not sure about disassembling the Macbook to replace it.. You might be SoL.

If you can disassemble, take the time to clean out the heat sink fins - well worth it.

Edit: What n0ns3ns3 is saying is also very true, Chrome will eat up 2GB in no time. RAM modules are pretty cheap, look into adding more.
